The construction of sewage and wastewater treatment plants is unable to hinder
-- The consideration on the prevention and control of water pollution in China (III)

( Abstract )

Monitoring analysis indicates that at present 51% of the discharging 40.1 billion cubic meters of sewage and wastewaters annually stems from cities. The surface water pollution also mainly comes from the industrial wastewater and domestic sewage emission. Because of this the construction of municipal sewage and wastewater treatment plants becomes the important condition for improving water environment in China.

But at present, China has over 400 municipal plants of sewage and wastewater treatment that completed in construction and put into operation. The daily treatment capacity is 25.34 million cubic meters. Figures from SEPA say that the wastewater and sewage treatment rate is 25% in China. The untreated sewage and wastewater directly discharge into rivers, so that over 1/3 of the river sections are polluted. 64% of the municipal river sections were at grade IV and V in water quality.

Recently for effectively preventing and controlling the water pollution, the construction of municipal sewage and wastewater treatment plants was paid attention in China. Many cities will bring the construction of such plants into the city planning basic construction...

Estimation from the Ministry of Construction states that in 2005 China's sewage and wastewater treatment rate of municipal pipeline network will be 47% and in 2015 it will be 70%...
