Pollution monitoring with computers

( Abstract )

A staff of Beijing EPA turned on his computer and dialed the number to a boiler room. The hourly soot emission by the boiler appeared on screen. Now most of the main boilers' pollution emission can be monitored online. Some of the wastewater treatment equipments have installed similar devices to display the pollution information on computer.

Beijing has 12 automatic air quality monitoring stations to provide air quality data on Beijing EPA's network. The 16 new automatic air quality monitoring stations imported France will be installed this year. The operation of air quality monitoring will be fully automatic.

The vehicle tail gas emission and vehicle license plate number are monitored with laser. Since last April, 78,000 vehicles have been archived with this laser device.
