Over 800 major polluters in Chongqing will be shut down

( Abstract )

Eight hundred and two heavy pollution enterprises in the Three Gorges of Yangtze River will be shut down within 3 years.

Fifteen hundred enterprises in the Three Gorges areas are relocated. Of them 1,397 are under the supervision of Chongqing government. After a complete investigation, Chongqing government decided to close 776 enterprises that caused too much pollution and were in too much debt.

These enterprises are owned, one third each, by the state, the collective and private, with a total of 90,000 staff workers. Two billion yuan will be spent to compensate their lives after the businesses are shut down.

The shut down not only reduces the pollution in the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, but also makes room for developing new enterprises.
