Based in Beijing with travelling to the project sites (5 provinces).

Project duration:

30 months (Mar 05-Aug 07) plus 6 months of follow up activities

Summary description:

Project Assistant work as a member of the Project team, guided by the team leader. He or she will assist the project management and output delivery, and participate in implementation to contribute to the accomplishment of the project objectives, as illustrated in the project concept paper, “Pathways to Higher Education (PHE) – Phase II: A breakthrough for dealing with poverty on college campuses” and logical framework for IED. He/she reports to Project Principals.

PHE 2, funded by the Ford Foundation, aims at building an innovative institutional arrangement to address the poverty issues on college campus. The project will be implemented in minimum 10 colleges of 7 provinces, Ningxia, Shann’xi, Qinghai, Sichuan and Hunan provinces plus Guizhou and Guangxi where PHE 1 took place.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Assisting project implementation:
    • Assist and participate in planning, designing and delivering the designed project outputs.
    • Mentored by the project principals, prepare and deliver the capacity building activities.
    • Mentored by the project principals, prepare and deliver the technical assistance, conducting training on the project relevant topics independently.
    • Instructed by the project principals, prepare and participate in the project reviews, M&E and review analysis.
    • Instructed by the project principals, prepare and participate in the project dissemination.
    • Prepare and participate in the project related research activities.
  • Assisting the project management:
    • Arrange logistics for project activities, e.g. site visits, planning sessions and workshops;
    • Facilitate communications for the project purpose, prepare the minutes of the project meetings.
    • Manage and file the project documents.
  • Duration of the commitment:
    • 30 months (100%), starting in April 2005.

Qualifications:

University degree in the fields of social development or education; committed to working in higher education, poverty reduction and social development China; adequate understanding of the environment for higher education in the country; demonstrated potential ability to conceptualize program ideas and strategies; demonstrated analytical, writing and organizational skills; ability to work with colleagues of diverse backgrounds and perspectives; be cooperative and a good team member.
