CEPF China country coordinator


Reports to: Country Director, CI China and CEPF Asia Grant Director

Location: Beijing, China (estimate about 1/3 of time traveling)

Summery: The main function of the CEPF China country coordinator is to be the point person of the China CEPF team to ensure the smooth operation of the coordination mechanism, which includes the following:

  • Building and maintaining strategic alliances and partnerships. Fostering collaboration and learning among strategic partners.

  • Designing and conducting Monitoring and evaluation for the CEPF projects;

  • Providing assistance to the CEPF grantees with a goal to increase capacity of local institutions.

  • Communicating CEPF’s achievement in SW China and help CEPF grantees in their communication needs.

  • Helping to increase the flow of financial resources in supporting the CEPF conservation outcomes and conservation outcomes of SW China as defined by the Outcome Mapping.

Responsibilities:

  1. On general CEPF coordination and grant-making: Daily communication with Asia Grant Director in CEPF DC office; leading CEPF team in China and ensure timely response to CEPF’s needs; training of CEPF team in China on administrative tasks related to CEPF coordination; meeting with potential grantees to explain CEPF program and to assist them with applications; assisting with financial and programmatic risk assessments for each applicant; troubleshooting for applicants and grantees; timely update of the grant information into databases.

  2. On M&E and capacity building: conducting site visits and submitting trip reports; reviewing reports from grantees and prepare comments; helping with quarterly review of portfolio with Grant director, assisting with logistics for CEPF and/or donor site visits in region; ensuring smooth coordination among small grant facilities; providing technical assistance to grantees wherever necessary; organizing workshops and events to publicize achievements and share experiences and lessons learned among CEPF grantees and CEPF partners;

  3. On communication: coordinating between CEPF Communication Manager on overall CEPF communication plans in China; assisting applicants in developing their communication plan when necessary; linking CEPF grantees with potential communication and publicizing opportunities; ensuring maintenance of CEPF Chinese website with weekly updated information and stories published for CEPF English newsletter; communicating CEPF’s stories to broad audience, feature stories on local, regional, national and international media;

  4. On fund raising: helping grantees with their fund raising needs; assisting fund raising for specific CEPF strategic directions with a goal to re-grant to local institutions; assisting fund raising for continuous finance to biodiversity conservation in SW China hotspot; providing assistance in CEPF global fundraising needs and in case of replenishment.

Education: Master’s degree in biology or appropriate field, or comparable experience.

Required Skills and Capabilities:

  • a strong interest in the field of nature conservation;

  • familiar with the SW China region;

  • Facilitation and conflict resolution

  • Presentation and communication skills;

  • good inter-personal communications and networking skills;

  • Fluent oral and written ability in English and Chinese

  • Project design, project management, including budget management, monitoring and evaluation;

  • ability to work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures;

  • willingness and ability to undertake travel throughout the region;

Years of Experience: At least three years professional experience in conservation or environmental issues, as well as experience of developing partnerships between a wide variety of organizations and individuals for achieving of common goals, is strongly preferred.
