Introduction on WWF Yangtze Programme


After 1998's destructive floods, China's government announced its policy of wetland restoration. The policy is a significant step in that it acknowledges the close links between floods, ecological damage and sustainable development in the Yangtze River basin. So, WWF launched its¡°Partnership for a living Yangtze program ¡± on September 20, 1999 in Changsha, with a vision to ¡°restore a living Yangtze¡±, within 25 years and rebuild it as a future cradle of Chinese civilization.

The Yangtze Program's main tasks as below:

  1. Policy work and Research, include hydrological models of the Yangtze River, central Yangtze eco-region plan and socio-economic research along the river basin.
  2. Sustainable use and development demonstration
  3. Communication and magnification

Job Description (1)

Position: Communication and Training Project Manager to Yangtze Focal Project

Location: WWF China Programme Yangtze Field Office in Changsha

Report to: Yangtze Focal Project Leader

Function: Coordinate communication and training activities to WWF Yangtze Focal Project

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop communication and training strategy and implement communication & magnification plan relating to Yangtze Focal Project.
  2. Manage relationship with Governmental Agency on wetland conservation and sustainable use training, and Nature Reserve management training and networking issues.
  3. Manage media relationship to increase public awareness of WWF Yangtze Focal Project.
  4. Conduct information in & out to increase profile of Yangtze Programme to target audience.
  5. Ensure the delivery of yearly targets assigned by Yangtze Programme Leader.
  6. Manage information of WWF China website relating to Yangtze Programme.
  7. Manage other information relating to Yangtze Programme, such as collection and filing of video, slides, photos and newspapers.
  8. Support internal and external communications related to Yangtze Programme activities.
  9. Assist the Communication Manager of WWF CPO with communication campaigns and activities when these become priorities for the WWF Yangtze Programme Programme.
  10. Perform other tasks as requested by WWF Yangtze Programme Leader.

Working Relationships

  1. Internal: Primary supervisors are Yangtze Programme Leader. Regular contact with other team members of Yangtze Focal Project and HSBC Project, WWF CPO Communications Officer, WWF CPO webmaster, communication manager of Freshwater Focal Programme of WWF-NL, WWF-UK, Partner for Wetland. Occasional contact with WWF China Programme Administrator and other members within WWF CPO, WWF Network, particularly communication staff of WWF-Int., Living Water Programme
  2. External: Regular interaction with project partners, local communities and mass media.

Qualifications

  1. Master Degree in Ecology
  2. At least one year working experience in conservation
  3. Good English in writing, speaking and reading
  4. Proactive, innovative and output-oriented personality with the ability to meet hard conditions and willing to work under pressure.

Job Description ( 2 )

Position: Associate of Yangtze Focal Project

Location: WWF Yangtze Prgramme Field Office in Changsha

Reports to: Yangtze Focal Project Leader

Functions: Responsible for financial and administration to Yangtze Focal Project and Yangtze Programme field office in Changsha

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Be responsible for general administration of Yangtze Programme field office in Changsha.
  2. Financial management to Yangtze Programme field office in Changsha.
    1. Prepare daily financial transactions.
    2. Call funds from WWF head office as relevant.
    3. Monitor office running cost against annual budget
  3. Assists Changsha field Office and WWF CPO Finance to prepare the annual budget of Yangtze Focal Project in collaboration with programme staffs.
  4. Assist field communication activities associating to Yangtze Focal Project.
  5. Assist WWF CPO financial department for internal auditing to contracted projects.
  6. Provide financial training to third parties when necessary.
  7. 7£®Be responsible for general administration of field project contracts and funds.
  8. 8£®Assist other team members of Yangtze Focal Project with logistic arrangements whenever activities and campaigns happen to Changsha field office and become priorities for the WWF Yangtze Programme.
  9. 9£®Assist programme staffs of Changsha Office for better implementation of conservation activities
  10. Undertake other tasks allocated by programme staffs of Changsha Field Office and Leader to Yangtze Focal Project.

Working Relationships:

  1. Internal: Primary supervisor is Yangtze Focal Project Leader (based in Changsha). Regular contact with team members of Yangtze Focal Project and CPO finance & admin department. Occasional contact with other members WWF Freshwater & Marine Programme.
  2. External: Regular interaction with local communities, local government agencies and staff of Nature Reserves.

Qualifications

  1. College graduate.
  2. Proactive, innovative and output-oriented personality with the ability to meet hard conditions and willing to work under pressure.
  3. Public relations and good interpersonal skills.
