Programme Officer - Dam issues

Programme Officer (for Dam Issue) will develop a strategy for engaging constructively with government, dam operations and other stakeholders to ensure that environmental issues are given a higher priority in decision-making on Chinese dams as well as commissioning a number of relevant studies.

The key requirements are:

  1. In cooperation with relevant WWF staff (Dam Initiative, FM TDP, Climate Change & Energy TDP, Yangtze Policy Officer), develop and update a strategy for the WWF China Programme to work on dam issues especially in priority rivers including the Yangtze, Mekong and Salween.
  2. Keep close contact with the WWF Dam Initiative Team, and introduce related findings, recommendations, and documents to China.
  3. Liaise with and seek financial support from other individuals and institutions, particularly NGOs, to provide sound decision-making information on dam construction in China.
  4. Collect dam information in China and establish database on dam issues, which will serve as an information source for the WWF family. Publish the quarterly electronic newsletter China Dam Issues
  5. Work with Climate Change & Energy, Freshwater & Marine, Policy Programmes, and Yangtze Policy Officer to prepare some Issue Papers on dam issues.
  6. Ensure that a sound communications strategy is in place and participate in communications as planned.
  7. Fulfill other project-related works as required.
