Job Description |
Background The Civil Society Program (CSP) is the Canadian Embassy's fund for supporting the establishment and strengthening of non-government organizations (NGOs) and community groups in China. The CSP encourages volunteerism and public participation in activities that aim to improve the community or help a disadvantaged group. The CSP shall consider supporting autonomous, non-government organizations carrying out projects which will: The CSP funds small-scale activities which are of limited duration and have a high probability of being sustainable. CSP projects typically involve workshops to share experience and resources, networking among organizations with common interests, raising public awareness, fundraising or training in such areas as environmental protection, transparency and accountability. The CSP is not a charity, but rather seeks to encourage the participation of citizens in initiating and sustaining activities which benefit their community or a disadvantaged group in society. Terms of Reference The Civil Society Program Officer will act as a consultant under the direction of the Program Coordinator and is responsible for providing project support to the Civil Society Program. The Program Officer has the responsibility for paying all taxes and social security charges, and for paying his/her relevant insurance. The position is on a full-time basis with occasional work on weekends and in evenings. The Consultant should be able to start June 1, 2002. The first task for the Program Officer will be to assist in a review of the program with a Canadian evaluator.
